To try and make a very long story short, which is impossible, because you've just asked me the meaning of my life... I'm a singer and guitarist, and currently do a one man show.

I played with bands and duos for many years. Bars, cafes, weddings,... Then I moved on to a one man show (sometimes duo with female singer,) using backing tracks that I had pre-programmed on a Korg keyboard. I double on keys, and other instruments.

So the music is all over the place, because I know zillions of songs and styles. I'll go from Fats Domino and Roy Orbison to the Beatles to Dylan, James Taylor to Doobies, Skynyrd, Squeeze, Police, Sublime...

I took some time off and did the day job thing for a while, but now I'm back at it in my forties. The tough thing has been reestablishing contacts, but the gigs have been going well. My set up is much simpler. I put the backing tracks on cds, and don't even hassle with the keyboard anymore. And so far, even the twenty-somethings have been into it. I guess rock is universal!

Thanks for asking Boinkity, and remember, it's never too late to play! You never know when someone gets the bug. Just a few years ago, one of my brothers suddenly decided that he wanted to play guitar for fun. I got him started, and he just learned the chords, and played away! You can do it!

I'll let you know when I put something on you tube. I finally got up the guts to turn the video camera on myself, only to discover that my current PC doesn't have a serial port like my camcorder! But I'll figure something out...

Trapp... you play music? Just curious what instrument/s you play, and what kind of music. I always wanted to be a musician, but was always very impatient when it came to learning music in school and stuff.

Hey there Alison, that shower curtain needy thing is so annoying. At least I can think of you and know I am not alone in that.
The music thing well to be honest at work I have on O&A from XM. Other then that I am a big hair band fan, yep I admit to a mullet back in the day.
I miss you on Red eye also, would love to see you in the leg chair.

I figured you were working on some projects, Miss R. You mentioned something about a deadline the other day.

When your book comes out, I'm going to be the first to get a signed copy. I may have to beat back Ted, Boinkity and Trapp with a stick, but I'm going to be first. I'll do whatever it takes!

And when you sign the book, Alison, I'd like you to write this... "To the only man I've ever really loved. I think of you every minute of every day -- even on Christmas. I exist only for you. Hugs and kisses, Alison"

I rarely listen to music when I work, but I do have an interesting shower story! Tuesday morning I was taking a shower when my feet flew out from under me and I fell. BAM! Now I never really thought much about slipping and falling in the shower -- although I've heard stories. But it happened so fast that before I even realized what was going on I was already on my way down. The only thing I could grab was the shower curtain, which had no effect other than pulling it down with me.

But it's interesting how much you can think of in those 1 or 2 seconds. I imagined getting a big gash in my head and having to drive myself to the hospital with a towel wrapped around my noggin and blood splurting everywhere. So I tried to protect my head and ended up not hitting it at all. I fell on my left hip -- which was sore for the rest of the day but is fine now.

I suppose that's how older people break their hips. I learned how easily that can happen.

An Alison Rosen book! Now yer talkin'! And now we know what to get you for Christmas, a new shower curtain, so you can cut the old one up into swatches to sell to us fans. For framing, of course.

Music is a trick question for me, since I play. If I'm being a good boy, I'm listening to what I'm working on. For pleasure, I like music from old standards to today, but if I'm motivating myself to clean up around the house, it's gotta rock.

I'm a DJ so sometimes the music is the work, but when I'm programming a killer website I put on jazz or metal or reggae.

Music helps me work, but I cannot listen to anything with lyrics when I need to concentrate. Robert Rich creates lovely background ambience. I especially like his albums "Trances/Drones," "Calling Down the Sky," and "Somnium."

Yes I usually listen to music while I am working. I am an engineer that works on rockets. When I am reviewing test data I listen to Styxx (I am old school). When I am pissed off at my boss and have to do a stupid job, then I listen to Suicidal Tendencies. For all other work I will listen to the Ramones, Pink Floyd, Blondie, The Cure, The Alan Parsons Project. It is rather eclectic, but them I am a little eccentric.

Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your live and U Tube shows.

I prefer to listen to the voices in my head sing....they are quite good during the acappella version of "Back in Black"

So am I to understand this correctly...I have to be in a shower with EVERYONE and you are the shower curtain!?!?!?! WTF!!!! Will the water be warm or cold....that will help me decide whether to get in or not!

Alison, I never heard of you before yesterday, and I really should have...You are smart, educated, witty, and hilarious. And more. Where have I been? Well to answer your question, the music I listen to at work has to be very much "in the background." I'm a creative director for a company that is in healthcare publishing...which really means I do a lot of graphic design and page layout. As long as I can't hear the words, I can work diligently. If I hear the lyrics, my mind leaves the computer and off to another place.

It's funny...when people listen to music, their mind usually wraps itself to the music OR the lyrics, but usually not both equally. Which is the case for you?

I listen to classical, really light jazz, soundtracks, that sort of thing. Kind of "non-interfering-with-my-workload" music.

Congratulations on your book proposal! I look forward to reading it...oh, and you may want to look into a shower door. I've heard about those clingy shower curtains.

hahahah... Alison I miss you too, but that visual of us guys as you in the shower, and you as the shower curtain... well, I'm just waiting for Ted to comment on that. All I know is... if Ted doesn't make some type of weird comment, something is wrong with the universe today.

As far as music at work. I don't have any music at work and it drives me bonkers. At my job I have to deal with a wide variety of people, so to be accommodating, I would definitely want to listen to some type of classical symphony or perhaps a classical quartet to pass the time. If I were alone at work, with headphones on, I would probably be playing lots of 70s, 80s hard rock or 90s grunge or big band jazz

I listen to music as I work. I just push shuffle on my iPod touch and go with the flow. For productivity I listen to 21 Nation, Electric Six, Theart, Chaingang, Nerf Herder, and Repeat Offender.
